The restaurant business came in a day to Mike & Joy. Mike went to culinary school and was working as a chef doing prepared foods for a market in Lafayette Hill. Joy was pregnant with their first child. It was a Sunday morning, Mike was reading the paper and saw a restaurant for sale in Hatboro, he called. They looked at the restaurant on Monday, agreed to buy it on Tuesday, and figured out how to pay for it on Wednesday. That was in August of 1998. They became owners of the Barley Bree Restaurant in Hatboro and changed the name to Bonnet Lane Family Restaurant, they were on Bonnet Lane in the Bonnet Lane Shopping Center, it just made sense. Mike quickly turned that 60 seat restaurant to the place to go for breakfast and lunch. He was able to fill those seats to the max, especially for Sunday breakfast. Mike & Joy’s restaurant became the popular spot, lines out the door waiting for a seat. Then tragedy came in the form of hurricane Floyd in September of 1999. It destroyed everything. Filled the basement and four foot of water into the first floor, they lost everything. Their tears turned into tears of joy when they discovered the site of the one-time mattress store in Abington. Since their opening October 23, 2000 they have steadily built this restaurant into one of the regions most appealing family restaurants.
